Job summary

Eastern Michigan University seeks a Custodian to perform routine and heavy cleaning and upkeep on Main Campus facilities. The role includes cleaning floors, mirrors, windows, restrooms, and removing waste, with responsibilities to stock supplies, replace bulbs, and move furnishings as needed.

Shift is Monday–Friday, 5:00 AM to 1:30 PM, location Sherzer/Hoover. Requires a high school education and ability to perform medium-heavy physical work; salary is FM 06* = $17.39/hour ($36,171 annually).

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, interpret instructions and perform basic arithmetic.
• Ability to perform physically active work of a medium-heavy nature; frequent walking, lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and heavy cleaning, and upkeep of University buildings and facilities.
• Clean and maintain floor surfaces and stairways; mop, strip, seal, refinish, polish with equipment.
• Clean mirrors, glass, lavatories, fixtures and other surfaces.
• Vacuum, clean carpets, ceilings, walls and furniture.
• Remove waste; stock restrooms with supplies; maintain inventories.
• Replace burned-out light bulbs and move furniture as needed.
• Lock/unlock rooms and report hazards to supervisor.
