Job summary

New North Citizens’ Council (NNCC) is seeking a Building Maintenance Custodian to keep two NNCC buildings clean, safe, and well-maintained. The role involves 20 hours per week at each location, performing routine cleaning, floor care, and occasional deep cleaning while ensuring sanitation standards, especially in childcare areas.

The position requires independence, attention to detail, and reliable adherence to schedules.

Qualifications

• Experience in custodial services, commercial cleaning, or building maintenance.
• Experience operating floor polishing, buffing, or similar commercial cleaning equipment.
• Basic knowledge of light maintenance and minor building repairs.
• Knowledge of cleaning, disinfecting, sanitation, and safe chemical-handling practices.
• Ability to manage custodial supplies and inventory across two locations.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain cleaning schedules.
• Strong reliability, attention to detail, organizational skills, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize offices, classrooms, childcare areas, hallways, entrances, common spaces, and other assigned areas.
• Clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms; maintain sanitary conditions and adequate supplies.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, remove trash and recycling, and clean windows, glass doors, and accessible surfaces.
• Maintain clean and orderly facilities, addressing high-traffic areas and sanitation needs throughout the day.
• Safely operate floor polishing, buffing, and other custodial machines to maintain hard-surface floors.
• Perform scheduled floor polishing and other appropriate floor treatments based on flooring type and maintenance requirements.
• Conduct monthly deep cleaning of childcare areas, following applicable sanitation and safety procedures.
• Coordinate and perform annual deep cleaning of carpets and rugs, using appropriate equipment or approved outside services.
• Complete periodic detailed cleaning of windows, restrooms, baseboards, and other areas requiring additional attention.
• Maintain cleaning schedules and records of completed deep-cleaning assignments.
