Job summary

Fairfax County Public Schools is seeking a Custodian to perform cleaning, setup, and routine maintenance in FCPS-owned buildings. The role may require evening or night shifts and includes moving supplies and ensuring rooms are prepared for meetings and training.

The ideal candidate has custodial experience, understands cleaning materials, and can follow written and verbal instructions with strong safety practices.

Qualifications

• Completion of the FCPS Custodial Certification Course prior to or within one year of appointment.
• Some experience in public building custodial work.
• Must be able to work evening and/or night shifts on a regular or rotating basis.
• Knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, procedures, and cleaning materials.
• Ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to learn proper use of cleaning products.
• Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Responsibilities

• Perform repetitive, heavy, manual cleaning and maintenance duties in FCPS-owned buildings.
• May work independently or assist the building supervisor in a large building.
• Set up and prepare meeting/training rooms as scheduled.
• Unlock and secure facility doors as needed.
• Mop floors and strip/re-wax floors with buffing machine.
