Job summary

Providence Housing Authority is seeking a Maintenance/Custodial worker to perform routine custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping tasks across agency properties. The role includes cleaning floors, restrooms, and common areas, plus basic minor repairs and security checks.

Candidates should understand English well and have a high school diploma or GED (preferred). Prior public housing experience is a plus, but not required. Ability to move heavy items and operate cleaning equipment is essential.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand English language at productivity level.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• No prior experience required; 1–2 years preferred in maintenance or construction.
• Prior experience in public housing settings preferred.
• Working knowledge of janitorial methods and maintenance practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial, maintenance and grounds keeping tasks.
• Clean and polish floors in storerooms and common areas using standard equipment.
• Maintain restrooms by cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing fixtures.
• Perform grounds maintenance including pruning, seeding and snow removal.
• Handle minor repairs and respond to work orders for upkeep.
• Operate cleaning solvents and cleaning tools safely.
• Carry out routine security checks of offices and buildings as scheduled.
