Job summary

Save the Children is seeking a Custodian to maintain safe, clean facilities for Head Start/ Early Head Start programs in our Alexandria, LA location.

You will follow cleaning schedules, perform routine maintenance, and report hazards to ensure a healthy environment for children and staff. The role includes minor repairs and compliance with safety regulations, reporting to the Center Director or Facilities Manager.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• Knowledge of basic maintenance tools and terminology.
• Ability to operate light trucks and cleaning appliances.
• Ability to follow directions and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Follow daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules for classrooms, kitchens, offices, bathrooms, storage areas, halls, and entrances.
• Ensure buildings are hazard-free and report safety, sanitation, and fire hazards.
• Perform regular safety checks of facilities and grounds.
• Maintain health and safety to protect children, families, staff.
• Replenish items in bathrooms/classrooms; sanitize areas; empty trash.
• Maintain custodial supplies inventory and MSDS records.
• Perform routine maintenance like changing light bulbs and servicing equipment.
• Assist with minor repairs or upgrades to facilities as assigned.
