Job summary

Johnson County in Iowa City is seeking a Regular, full-time custodian for the Physical Plant - Professional division. The role performs cleaning and upkeep of a designated county building under general supervision, with tasks like sweeping floors, disinfecting restrooms, and maintaining supplies.

Candidates should have basic English skills, at least an eighth-grade education, and 6 months custodial experience.

Qualifications

• Familiar with cleaning methods, equipment and supplies.
• Knowledge of safety regulations for custodial work.
• Ability to understand basic grammar and punctuation in English.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors in hallways, lobbies and offices.
• Wash sinks, mirrors, shelves, windows, walls and blinds.
• Disinfect high touch surfaces such as handrails and door knobs.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and replace supplies.
• Dust and wash furniture and fixtures.
• Move furniture and prepare rooms for meetings as requested.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpets.
• Carry out and dispose of garbage and recyclables.
• Perform routine maintenance on cleaning equipment.
• Notify supervisor of inventory and maintenance needs.
• Occasionally perform routine grounds work and snow removal.
