Job summary

The University of Iowa in Iowa City is seeking a Custodian I to maintain clean building environments and support a safe, welcoming campus. You will perform comprehensive cleaning tasks, move supplies, handle linens, and assist with light repairs while adhering to safety and quality standards, in a full-time on-campus schedule.

The role requires physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, in varying temperatures and noise levels.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Perform cleaning in all areas of a building.
• Clean floors: vacuuming, shampooing, sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and buffing.
• Thoroughly clean restrooms using specialized equipment.
• Clean glass surfaces, ceilings and walls; ladders up to 12 feet may be required.
• Replace light bulbs and clean fixtures; ladders as needed.
• Make beds and handle linens; restock disposables; disinfect beds and surfaces.
• Report breakage and needed repairs.
• Move furniture and supplies; deliver supplies across areas.
• Collect trash and maintain exterior areas; sweep sidewalks; snow/ice removal.
