Job summary

Bok Tower Gardens, Inc. in Lake Wales, FL seeks a dependable Custodian/JAN to perform custodial duties throughout the Gardens and facilities, indoors and outdoors in all weather.

You will clean restrooms, collect trash, sweep walkways, and assist visitors while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.

Requires a HS diploma or GED and at least one year of custodial experience; hours are Thursday to Monday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with at least 1 year of custodial/janitorial experience.
• Equivalency of education and training accepted where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Collect trash from outdoor and indoor areas throughout the Gardens.
• Check restrooms, stock and clean as scheduled or as needed.
• Sweep outside walkways of Visitor Center, Café and Gift Shop areas.
• Clean and maintain BTG buildings and facilities (Visitor Center, Exhibit Hall, restrooms, Theatre, offices, Discovery Center, etc.).
• Sweeping, mopping, dusting ceilings/walls, cleaning windows/mirrors (interior and exterior).
• Be visible and assist visitors with questions and monitor public facilities for cleanliness and presentation.

JOB SUMMARY:

To perform custodial duties as assigned throughout the Gardens and all of Bok Tower Gardens facilities. Must be willing to work indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Collect trash from all outside trash cans throughout the Gardens
• Check all restrooms, stock and clean as shown on schedule and/or needed
• Sweep outside walkways of Visitor Center, Café and Gift Shop areas as needed
• Clean and maintain buildings of BTG (which include: Visitor Center, Exhibit Hall, Bathrooms, Theatre, Horticulture Offices and Building, Information Booth, Annex Storage, Olmsted house, North Walk Restrooms, Discovery Center Restrooms, Discovery Center Classroom)
• Sweeping, mopping, collecting trash, dusting ceilings/walls, cleaning windows/mirrors to include interior and exterior
• Be visible and available to assist visitors with questions and/or problemsMonitor all public facilities (gardens, restrooms, picnic areas, etc.) to ensure their cleanliness and presentation for the public

• Ability to operate standard equipment used for custodial/janitorial purposes - ladders, step stools, handcarts, vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms etc.

• Ability to drive golf carts safely through Gardens
• Excellent internal customer service skills

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED; plus minimum of one (1) year of experience in custodial/janitorial work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Working hours are: Thursday-Monday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
• Some exposure to general cleaning chemicals used for janitorial purposes
• Able to work outside in summer and winter climates
• Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, repetitive arm motions or light lifting (up to 60 lbs.)
• Continuous communication and/or interaction with staff, volunteers, and visitors
