Job summary

Bok Tower Gardens Inc seeks a diligent custodian to handle custodial tasks across the Gardens and BTG facilities. The role requires working indoors and outdoors in all weather, ensuring a welcoming, clean environment for visitors.

Responsibilities include trash collection, restroom upkeep, floor care, and assisting visitors. Candidates should be able to lift up to 60 lbs, operate standard cleaning equipment, and communicate effectively with staff and guests. Thursday–Monday shift details apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus minimum 1 year custodial/janitorial experience
• Ability to operate standard custodial equipment (vacuum, mop, broom, ladders, etc.)
• Comfort working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions

Responsibilities

• Collect trash from outdoor cans throughout the Gardens
• Check restrooms, stock supplies and clean per schedule or needs
• Sweep walkways and clean Visitor Center, Café and Gift Shop areas
• Maintain cleanliness of BTG facilities (Visitor Center, Exhibit Hall, restrooms, theatres, offices)
• Clean interior and exterior windows, dust surfaces, and monitor cleanliness for public presentation
• Assist visitors with questions and problems and be available on site

JOB SUMMARY:

To perform custodial duties as assigned throughout the Gardens and all of Bok Tower Gardens facilities. Must be willing to work indoor and outdoor in all weather conditions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Collect trash from all outside trash cans throughout the Gardens
• Check all restrooms, stock and clean as shown on schedule and/or needed
• Sweep outside walkways of Visitor Center, Café and Gift Shop areas as needed
• Clean and maintain buildings of BTG (which include: Visitor Center, Exhibit Hall, Bathrooms, Theatre, Horticulture Offices and Building, Information Booth, Annex Storage, Olmsted house, North Walk Restrooms, Discovery Center Restrooms, Discovery Center Classroom)
• Sweeping, mopping, collecting trash, dusting ceilings/walls, cleaning windows/mirrors to include interior and exterior
• Be visible and available to assist visitors with questions and/or problemsMonitor all public facilities (gardens, restrooms, picnic areas, etc.) to ensure their cleanliness and presentation for the public

• Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions
• Ability to operate standard equipment used for custodial/janitorial purposes - ladders, step stools, handcarts, vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms etc.

• Ability to drive golf carts safely through Gardens
• Excellent internal customer service skills

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or GED; plus minimum of one (1) year of experience in custodial/janitorial work or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Working hours are: Thursday-Monday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
• Some exposure to general cleaning chemicals used for janitorial purposes
• Able to work outside in summer and winter climates
• Occasional reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, repetitive arm motions or light lifting (up to 60 lbs.)
• Continuous communication and/or interaction with staff, volunteers, and visitors
