Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) seeks a Housekeeping Inspector in Richmond to conduct routine inspections of buildings, parking decks, and lots ensuring contract custodial services meet standards.

The role partners with vendor supervisors to address deficiencies, promotes quality and safety, and maintains records for QA. Must pass background checks and report on-site, with an evening shift (3:45 pm–11:45 pm).

Qualifications

• Valid Virginia driving license required.
• Ability to work a 3:45 pm–11:45 pm shift; some weekends/holidays.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment for diverse surfaces.
• Knowledge of safety practices in cleaning chemicals.
• Experience with floor buffers and vacuums.
• Ability to evaluate the work of contract personnel.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to perform manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Excellent time management and attention to detail.
• Proficient with computers (email, word processing, spreadsheets).

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily walk‑through inspections of buildings, tenant areas, restrooms, and support areas to assess custodial work quality.
• Inspect parking decks and surface lots to ensure cleanliness, safety, and presentation standards.
• Document inspection findings, deficiencies, safety concerns, and contract compliance.
• Communicate inspection results to contract vendor supervisors and ensure corrective actions are completed.
• Monitor proper cleaning techniques and product usage per standards.
• Report maintenance needs or safety hazards to relevant teams for follow‑up.
• Maintain records and logs related to custodial performance for QA.
• Ensure vendor compliance with custodial specifications and contractual obligations.
• Respond professionally to tenant cleanliness concerns to ensure a positive experience.
