Job summary

Friends of the Children – SF Bay Area is seeking a Facilities & Custodial Associate to keep our Bayview-Hunters Point space clean, safe, and ready for youth programs and events. You’ll handle basic repairs, supply management, and setup/teardown for activities with a team that supports families and volunteers.

This role offers a part-time schedule (20 hours per week), competitive hourly pay, sick leave, and paid vacation, with holiday pay.

Qualifications

• Ability to work independently and spot what needs doing without being asked
• Resourceful problem-solving and learning to fix minor equipment
• Comfort with basic hand tools and tasks like hanging shelves and assembling furniture
• Experience in custodial, facilities, building operations, or professional cleaning work
• Good organizational skills around supplies and spaces
• Clear, professional communication with staff and vendors
• Warm, respectful presence with children, families, staff, volunteers, and visitors

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, youth spaces, offices, meeting rooms, and high-touch areas.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop, and wipe surfaces; restock supplies.
• Manage waste streams and keep restrooms and shared spaces stocked.
• Complete scheduled deep-cleaning and respond to spills during shifts.
• Conduct daily building walkthroughs and identify needs for preventive maintenance.
• Handle basic repairs, troubleshooting, and coordination with vendors.
• Set up rooms for programs and events, then reset afterward.
• Track inventory and receive deliveries, keeping storage areas organized.
