Job summary

The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is seeking a detail‑oriented Supervisor of Building Trades to oversee construction and maintenance projects and perform hands‑on facility repairs in office locations throughout the division.

You will coordinate with Tech Services, manage procurement, bid reviews, and ensure contract compliance, safety training, and accurate reporting of time and expenditures for assigned projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor facility repairs and routine maintenance to ensure safe, functional, and well‑maintained workspaces.
• Serve as Job Site Supervisor for construction and maintenance projects, ensuring work is completed efficiently and in alignment with project plans.
• Coordinate closely with Tech Services to ensure all contracts, purchase orders, service orders, and card‑based purchases are accurate, complete, and compliant with departmental requirements.
• Maintain strong communication with project stakeholders to support progress tracking and adherence to project timelines.
• Ensure contractors follow all contract specifications, utilize approved materials, and meet required standards.
• Manage procurement of materials needed for facility repairs and projects, including obtaining bids, documenting purchases, and ensuring materials are available to keep projects moving.
• Support contractors by ensuring all necessary resources—materials, tools, equipment, safety gear, and transportation—are available to complete assignments.
• Process and track financial records and Purchasing Card (P‑Card) statements in FI$CAL in accordance with Department policy.
• Maintain compliance with Standard Safety Practices and document all required safety materials and training activities.
• Keep daily logs of on‑site activities and maintain accurate digital records.
• Track timekeeping and expenditures for assigned projects.
• Prepare and submit regular reports upon request.
