Job summary

The New York State Department of Health is seeking a versatile cleaner to perform a wide range of routine cleaning tasks in Batavia. The role involves following disinfectant and waste disposal standards, and handling trash, hazardous items, and spills per schedules.

You will assemble cleaning carts, mix solutions, clean floors and fixtures, vacuum and shampoo carpets, and maintain restrooms. The position requires physical ability and may include weekends and holidays; salary is prorated for

Qualifications

There are no education or experience requirements for this class.
Cleaners must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Preferred: experience in a long-term care geriatric setting cleaning.

Responsibilities

Perform a variety of cleaning tasks following specialized disinfectant, waste disposal, and cleanliness standards.
Collect and empty trash and recycling per schedules; clean and remove hazardous items, waste, and spills; dispose of items properly.
Assemble cleaning carts; prepare, mix, and dilute cleaning solutions; wash floors, corridors, stairs, walls, partitions, and windows.
Vacuum, strip, and wax floors, shampoo carpets; scrub and clean showers and restrooms including toilets and sinks.
Replace light bulbs, dust or wash light fixtures and high places; monitor supplies; notify supervisors of maintenance issues.
Move and arrange furniture for events; perform grounds maintenance such as snow removal and salting walkways; routine laundry and changing bed linens.
