Job summary

The City of La Habra is seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Worker to support the Building Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This journey-level role performs maintenance, repair, and alteration tasks across City buildings and facilities to ensure safety and usability for the public and staff.

Responsibilities include inspecting areas, performing electrical, plumbing, painting, and custodial duties, and assisting in securing supplies.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building maintenance practices and safety procedures.
• Basic construction and repair methods including carpentry, plumbing, electrical work.
• Familiarity with lighting controls, plumbing repairs and fixture installations.
• Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and custodial equipment.
• Ability to read, interpret, and document work orders and reports.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots and repairs electrical appliances and lighting fixtures.
• Performs painting, custodial tasks, and general maintenance.
• Completes building alterations and maintains records of work.
• Secures supplies and tools for assigned tasks.
• Provides direction to part-time maintenance staff when needed.
• Inspects buildings for safety hazards and ensures safe operation of equipment.
