Job summary

Job Title: Building and Grounds Technician

Department: Facilities

Location: Rochester General Hospital- 1425 Portland Ave, Rochester, NY 14621

Hours Per Week: 40 Hrs.

Schedule: 7am-330pm

SUMMARY

This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional healthcare grounds environment and is responsible for the upkeep of facility infrastructure, grounds, and equipment to support patient care, staff operations, and regulatory compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain hospital grounds including landscaping, snow removal, and exterior cleanliness.
• Safely operate and maintain a range of grounds maintenance equipment- including mowers, trimmers, blowers and other tools
• Basic landscaping- edging, pruning and weeding
• Snow removal in the winter months, Truck with plow, Ventrac and hand shoveling
• Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., DNV, OSHA, NFPA).
• Assist with environmental services and infection control protocols during repairs and renovations.
• Support facility readiness for emergency situations, including backup power systems and disaster preparedness.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and inspections.
• Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, inspections, and compliance logs.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various indoor and outdoor conditions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Familiarity with DNV standards and healthcare compliance requirements.
• Familiarity with infection control and safety protocols in clinical environments.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 2+ years of experience in building maintenance and grounds/landscaping, preferably in a healthcare or institutional setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

• Valid NYS Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

PAY RANGE: $19.75 - $25.06
