Job summary

Family Support Services is seeking a Facilities & Grounds Specialist to keep our properties clean, safe, and welcoming for clients and staff. The role includes cleaning restrooms and public areas, basic maintenance, and grounds care at the Safe Shelter and nearby properties.

The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, and capable of working independently. Some knowledge of building maintenance, basic repairs, lawn care, and safe tool use is preferred to address issues before they escalate.

Facilities & Grounds Specialist

The Facilities & Grounds Specialist helps ensure Family Support Services properties remain clean, safe, functional, and welcoming for clients, visitors, and staff. This hands-on position is responsible for routine cleaning of public areas and restrooms, basic maintenance and repairs, grounds care, and identifying facility concerns before they become larger problems.

Primary Responsibilities

• Clean, sanitize, and restock public restrooms.
• Maintain the cleanliness of entrances, hallways, common areas, meeting spaces, and other public-facing areas.
• Empty trash and monitor waste containers throughout the facilities.
• Complete basic handyman work and minor repairs, including simple plumbing, painting, patching, furniture assembly, and replacing fixtures or hardware.
• Mow, trim, and maintain the grounds at the Safe Shelter and FSS-owned neighboring property.
• Keep sidewalks, parking areas, entrances, and outdoor spaces free of trash and debris.
• Regularly inspect facilities and grounds for concerns such as leaks, water damage, unusual odors, damaged fixtures, burned-out lights, pavement holes, drainage problems, or safety hazards.
• Report larger repair needs promptly and help coordinate access for outside vendors when needed.
• Assist with moving furniture, setting up rooms, receiving supplies, and completing other facility-related tasks.
• Maintain basic records of completed work, needed repairs, and facility concerns.
• Protect client privacy and follow all safety, security, and confidentiality requirements, particularly when working at the Safe Shelter.

The ideal candidate is dependable, observant, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently. This person should take pride in noticing the small things - a full trash can, a dripping faucet, or a problem in the parking lot - and addressing them before they become big things. A general knowledge of building maintenance, basic repairs, cleaning practices, lawn care, and safe tool use is preferred.
