Job description

Melone Architects is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Facade / Building Envelope Inspector with 3–5 years of experience in the New York City market. In this role, you will work directly alongside our Qualified Exterior Wall Inspectors (QEWIs) to assist with field inspections, hands‑on critical examinations, and the preparation of Façade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP / Local Law 11) compliance reports. This is an excellent opportunity to gain rapid technical experience, log certified hours under a QEWI, and grow into a project management role within an established, supportive firm.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspection Assistance: Accompany senior staff and QEWIs on‑site to assist with physical and visual façade examinations from suspended scaffolds, supported scaffolding, boom lifts, and roofs.
  • Report Preparation: Draft technical FISP compliance reports, organizing field notes, photographic logs, and historical building data for final QEWI review and DOB NOW submission.
  • Defect Mapping: Identify, document, and map exterior building deterioration, including masonry cracks, spalling concrete, failed sealant, and displaced structural components.
  • Construction Monitoring: Assist with site visits to observe and document ongoing exterior restoration and waterproofing projects, ensuring compliance with construction documents.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: 3–5 years of direct experience in NYC building envelope inspection, forensic engineering, architecture, or exterior restoration construction.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred but not required if accompanied by strong field experience.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in AutoCAD for drafting repair details, mapping defects, and reviewing drawings.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work comfortably at significant heights on suspended scaffolds (scaffold drops) and industrial lifts.
  • Ability to carry field equipment, climb stairs/ladders, and work outdoors in varying New York City weather conditions.
Benefits Package

At Melone Architects, we value our team’s health, financial security, and long-term professional growth. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that features:

  • Competitive health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with a company match.
