Job summary

Jenike & Johanson is seeking a Fabricator Technician to join our San Luis Obispo lab/shop team. The role involves hands-on fabrication of weldments and assembling test rigs for customers and internal projects.

You will work with carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum, reading drawings and following instructions to build equipment from steel, wood, plastic, and aluminum while maintaining safe, organized work habits.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED.
• MIG and TIG welding experience on carbon and stainless steel.
• Experience reading drawings and building equipment from steel, wood, plastic, and aluminum.
• Ability to lift or move components up to 50 lb.
• Willingness to wear a respirator and follow safety protocols.
• Forklift operation training provided.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

Jenike & Johanson is looking for a Fabricator Technician to work alongside our dynamic bulk solids laboratory/shop team. Our San Luis Obispo employees work in a one-of-a-kind lab constructing specialized test equipment, prototype systems, and commercial bulk solids handling equipment. Our end goal is to ensure our clients’ needs are satisfied and that they are thrilled with the results.

Responsibilities:

• Fabricate weldments from carbon steel, stainless steel and aluminum
• Assemble equipment for customers and internal projects
• Assemble test rigs with piping, tubing and instrumentation
• Work as part of the lab team to perform physical modeling and test work
• Communicate clearly with engineers and team members on manufacturability of designs, observations and progress
• Work independently toward the timely completion of work

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Technical or trade college experience preferred but not required
• MIG and TIG welding of carbon and stainless-steel experience
• Knowledge of metal fabrication and fit up
• Experience in reading drawings and work off of written and verbal instructions to construct equipment from steel, wood, plastic, and aluminum
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Well-organized with clean/safe work habits
• Willingness to wear a respirator when required (respirator training provided)
• Ability to operate a forklift (training provided)
• Capability to lift or move components up 50 lb.

Preferred Experience:

• Low voltage electrical equipment troubleshooting
• Manual lathe and mill operations
• Working in a laboratory, ability to monitor experiments, document observations, and familiarity with lab safety practices
