Job description

Job Details

Job Location: Shield - KS - Kansas City, KS 66115

Position Type: Full Time

If you know your way around a shop, take pride in what you build, and would rather work on something custom than crank out the same thing all day, SHIELD might be a good fit.

SHIELD is a Kansas City manufacturer building custom products for some pretty recognizable clients. Our work can be found in locker rooms for top NFL, NBA and NCAA teams, as well as healthcare spaces across the country.

This is hands‑on fabrication work. Our projects are custom, which means you'll work through different materials, builds and challenges instead of doing the same repetitive task every day. We're looking for someone who can jump in, work hard, pay attention to the details and take pride in sending good work out the door.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Build custom casework, lockers and other products from start to finish
  • Work with wood, laminate, plastics and other materials
  • Use saws, routers, drills, sanders and other shop tools and equipment
  • Read drawings, take measurements and turn plans into finished products
  • Cut, assemble, finish and prep components for completed builds
  • Work alongside the rest of the shop to keep projects moving
  • Check your work and make sure what leaves the shop meets our quality standards
  • Pitch in where needed—we're a custom shop, so not every day looks exactly the same
  • Keep your work area clean and work safely
What We’re Looking For
  • 1–3 years of experience in cabinet making, finish carpentry, custom woodworking, casework or a similar fabrication environment
  • Experience using common shop tools and fabrication equipmentAbility to read a tape measure and work comfortably with fractions and decimals
  • Ability to read shop or CAD drawings is a plus
  • A good eye for fit, finish and details
  • A willingness to learn, take direction and also work independently
  • A team-first attitude and willingness to jump in where the work needs to get done
The Physical Side of the Job

This is a shop job, so you’ll be on your feet and moving throughout the day. You’ll regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel and work with your hands. You should also be comfortable lifting and moving materials weighing up to 75 lbs.

You’ll be working around machinery, tools, dust, noise and the normal conditions you’d expect in a working fabrication shop.

Why SHIELD?

You can actually point to what you built.

The work coming through our shop isn’t generic. One project might end up in a professional sports locker room and another in a nationally recognized healthcare facility. Either way, you’ll have a hand in building a finished product that’s made specifically for that client.

If you’re someone who likes working with your hands, cares about doing the job right and wants to build some genuinely cool stuff, we’d like to talk to you.
