Job summary

Key Technology in Walla Walla, WA is seeking a Fabricator to prepare metal parts across multiple work centers, operating cut-off saws, CNCs, and standard brakes and punches. This entry‑level role requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to read blueprints, measure accurately, and lift up to 50 pounds. Training will cover safety and machine operation.

You’ll work day shifts in a fast-paced environment with opportunities to advance through Levels 1–4 as you gain experience.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate machines such as cut-off saws, shears, rollers, drill presses, CNC and punching equipment.

• Read blueprints and measure parts to spec.
• Move between work centers and assist as needed.
• Ensure parts are complete and within tolerances.

Fabricators create or prepare parts for other work areas by operating machines such as a cut-off saws, shears, rollers, drill presses, and CNC and punching equipment and hand tools such as grinders, bevel mills, sanders and drills.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Level 1:

• At all times ensures safety is the top priority while performing any part of your job
• Understand and follow verbal and written instructions provided by Production Supervisor
• Read and comprehend basic blueprints
• Safely operate hand tools (grinders, bevel mills, drills, etc.)
• Other duties as assigned.

Level 2:

• In addition to the above duties.
• Able to obtain needed information from print repository and MRP programs
• Obtain and maintain fork lift certification
• Independent operator of at least 2 fabrication machines (excluding lasers and press brakes)

Level 3:

• In addition to the above duties.
• Read and comprehend advance blueprints
• Able to perform all nut weld processes needed after forming operations
• Able to perform all duties related to layout process
• Able to check completed jobs to ensure that all parts are complete and accurate
• Independent operator of at least 3 fabrication machines (excluding lasers and press brakes)

Level 4:

• In addition to the above duties.
• Assist Lead or Supervisor in maintain Kanban part levels
• Contribute toward troubleshooting machine operation and assisting maintenance with minor repairs
• Demonstrates a high level of problem solving by working the Engineers to resolve manufacturability issues
• Independent operator of all fabrication machines (excluding lasers and press brakes)

Education and/or Experience

Level 1:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using blue prints and tape measures highly recommended.

Level 2:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using blue prints and tape measures.

Level 3:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three plus years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using blue prints and tape measures.

Level 4:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five plus years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience using blue prints and tape measures.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to write short simple correspondence.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Abilities

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or in blueprint form.

COMMENTS

All employees are required to wear eye and hearing protection at all times while in the manufacturing area. Protective clothing provided by the company is to be worn at all times such as coveralls or shop jacket unless approved by management. Either all leathers shoes or boots must be worn at all times gloves are not required but recommended.

Summary

Fabricator will be trained or help on one or more of the following machines or work centers such as cutoff saws, CNC and standard shears and brakes, rollers, presses, forming machines, CNC and standard whitney punching machines, and CNC plasma & punch machines, belt, bench and hand-held grinders that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures by performing the following duties.

• Operates machines or works in work centers with supervision.
• At all times safety is a top priority while performing any part of your job.
• Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
• Frequently going to different work centers to help where needed to assist in a one- or two-man operation.
• Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction.
• Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation.
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece.
• Stacks, marks, packs, and transports finished workpieces.
• Properly use barcode system to reflect time charged to jobs.
