Job summary

Afinitas in Iowa seeks a skilled welder/fabricator to join our plant. Interpret drawings, set up and operate welding equipment (MIG, TIG, flux core), and perform fabrication to meet quality specs. Willingness to read blueprints and document quality checks is essential.

Requires precision measurement with micrometers/calipers, strong teamwork, and strict adherence to safety in a manufacturing environment. Experience with machined part fabrication is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret moderately complex drawings, route sheets, specifications, and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment for MIG, TIG, and flux core welding; adjust parameters; select electrodes and fittings.
  • Perform saw operations and painting as required.
  • Measure dimensions with micrometers and calipers to verify tolerances.
  • Inspect completed units to ensure conformance to specs using precision instruments.
  • Identify defects or issues and report to supervisor for corrective action.
  • Complete documentation to ensure quality and production requirements.
  • Participate in team meetings to resolve cost, quality, or production issues.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Interpret moderately complex drawings, route sheets, specifications, and instructions to determine methods and techniques to be applied

  • Set up and operate metal arc, shielded arc, or oxyacetylene equipment for welding, brazing, and flame cutting operations; set current, amperage, gas pressures and controls; select rod, wire, tips, electrodes for specific job at hand; fit, position, and secure with holding devices

  • Perform moderately complex saw operations and painting as required

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers

  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments such as micrometers

  • Detect defective material, unusual conditions or operating difficulties and report to supervisor describing in accurate detail to ensure proper corrective actions

  • Complete necessary documentation to ensure quality and production requirements

  • Actively participate in team meetings to communicate and help resolve any cost, quality, or production issues; understand and apply engineering change request process

  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures

  • Maintain equipment and work area in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Works in a plant/manufacturing environment that involves the use of industrial machinery and chemicals. Employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at the location.
