Job summary

MANITOU Group is seeking a Fab/Machine Operator for an onsite role in Madison, South Dakota. The position involves setting up, operating, and maintaining fabrication machinery to meet quality and production targets.

You will interpret drawings, manage measurement tasks, and use tools such as lasers and press brakes. The role requires safety awareness, teamwork, and readiness to work overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret drawings, work instructions and checklists.
• Read measuring instruments and understand tolerances.
• Experience with laser and press brake equipment preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office and Google Suite.

Responsibilities

• Set up, operate and maintain machinery safely and to spec.
• Interpret technical drawings and blueprints for fabrication work.
• Procure materials and use measurement tools as required.
• Operate lasers and press brakes and ensure quality documentation.
• Complete production and quality paperwork accurately.
• Coordinate with Fabrication Manager or Supervisor to resolve issues.
• Ability to work overtime and lift up to 50 lbs.

General Accountability

Fab/Machine operators set‑up, operate, and maintain machinery. Responsible for ensuring the machine produces high quality products, runs smoothly and at capacity, and is properly maintained. Fabrication involves cutting and bending of sheet metal for fabrication of Manitou products.

Shift Available

1st Shift – Monday-Thursday 5 a‑3:30 p OR 2nd Shift – Monday-Thursday 3:30 p‑2 a (15% shift differential if on 2nd shift)

Duties & Responsibilities

• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures; perform tasks in a safe manner.
• Interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Assists with procuring materials needed for production. Must use tape measure, square, protractor, dial caliper and plug gauges.
• Must operate the various equipment including lasers and press brakes.
• Responsible for completion for production and quality paperwork.
• Contact Fabrication Manager, Supervisor or Fabrication Leader if problems arise.
• In the event of an accident or injury immediately notify the Shift supervisor on duty.
• Contact the Maintenance Department to get equipment repaired when necessary.
• Ability and willingness to take on additional assignments as requested by management.
• Use tools, equipment and technology, computers or automated systems.
• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
• Check results for conformance to print and or specifications and make necessary corrections.
• Work with coworkers in a polite and courteous manner, providing cross training as needed.
• Able to work overtime as required.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs. independently.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications And Expectations For Advancement Purpose

• Level I
  • Must meet and exceed the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Understanding material handling processes.
  • Blueprint comprehension.
  • Ability to read and use measuring instruments.
• Level II
  • All duties of Level I in addition to:
  • Ability to operate machines and their operating systems.
• Level III
  • All duties of Level I and II in addition to:
  • Training of new employees.
  • Programming of Lasers.

Experience

• One year of experience is preferred.

Expertise

• Must be able to read and interpret drawings, standard work instructions, checklists, internal and external deviations, etc.
• Computer skills – knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Suite is preferred.
• Strong analytical and reasoning skills.
• Must be a self‑starter, team player, and have the ability to multitask.

Education

• High school diploma or GED.

What does MANITOU Group offer?

• Base pay starts at $21.00 per hour (plus 15% shift differential if on 2nd shift), plus a potential quarterly bonus based on performance metrics.
  • Actual pay determined by experience level, skills, qualifications & work location.
• This position is located onsite in Madison, South Dakota.
