Job summary

Hartzell Hardwoods, Inc. in Ohio is seeking a fabrication technician to turn flat sheet and structural materials into finished parts using manual and CNC equipment.

You will read work orders, set up equipment, and operate shears, punch presses, laser torches, and grinders in a safety‑minded shop. The role requires blueprint reading, math proficiency, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Fabrication experience is strongly desired.
• Experience with hand held grinders, drills, hammer, cutting torch, plasma torch, seam welder, flange punch, drill press is strongly desired.
• Experience with CNC equipment is preferred.
• Lean manufacturing and structured problem solving tools are a plus.
• Good understanding of blue print reading and excellent math skills.
• Able to read squares, protractors, and measuring tapes.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Lifts frequently 60% of day, 10–25 lb; occasionally 25–50 lb; floor-to-waist lifting.
• Must have close, distant, and color vision and good depth perception.
• Must reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.

Responsibilities

• Receives work orders verbally from supervisor or team lead.
• Works from work orders, layouts, or information in the computer system.
• Sets up and operates manual fabrication equipment (shears, roll formers, iron worker, punch press) using foot pedals, levers, switches, gauges, and welders.
• Sets up and operates CNC equipment (turret punch press, laser torch, plasma torch, brake press) from programs and layouts.
• Moves material in and out of work centers with assistance from co-workers and material handling equipment.
• Sets up and operates horizontal and vertical band saws, abrasive cutoff saws, and pedestal grinders.
• Operates small hand tools (grinders, drills) and deburring equipment.
• Supports Lean initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
• Follows safety practices and maintains a clean, safe work environment.
• Supports other departments or duties as necessary.
