Job summary

Ohio Laser, Inc. seeks a fabrication supervisor to lead daily welding operations and a skilled team. You will assign tasks, inspect welds, enforce safety, and ensure quality and efficiency in production.

You will mentor welders, maintain WPS, manage materials and tools, and uphold safety and industry standards. Strong leadership and technical knowledge are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED with related experience or training.
  • Proven welding and fabrication experience, with a supervisory background.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of AWS/ASME codes and industry standards.
  • Ability to manage safety, compliance, and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate welders; assign tasks and manage performance.
  • Inspect welds for compliance with blueprints, codes, and specifications; enforce procedures.

Job description

A fabrication supervisor manages daily welding operations, leading a team to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient production by assigning tasks, inspecting weld, enforcing safety, training staff, managing resources and ensuring compliance with industry codes (like AWS/ASME) and project specifications.

Duties
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate welders; assign daily tasks and manage performance.
  • Inspect welds for compliance with blueprints, codes (AWS, ASME), and specifications; ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Enforce safety rules, maintain a safe work environment, and ensure adherence to regulations.
  • Coordinate activities, manage schedules, optimize workflows, control costs, and minimize waste.
  • Maintain records, reports, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
  • Monitor necessary consumables, equipment, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Understand and follow company safety procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Deep understanding of welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW).
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards (AWS, API, ISO).
  • Ability to use and care for precision measuring equipment and tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other tools and gauges.
  • Knowledge of both metric and inch measuring systems.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic math and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Oral, written and technical communication skills are necessary for this position.
  • Math, reading and mechanical aptitude.

Education/Training

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience

Proven experience in welding and fabrication. Experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
