Job summary

Insteel Industries is seeking a Fabrication Shop Lead to organize daily shop operations, lead a small team, and ensure production to customer specifications. The role blends hands-on fabrication with supervision, safety leadership, and quality control in a fast-paced plant environment.

The ideal candidate balances technical skill with team leadership and a commitment to zero-harm principles, to deliver efficient, safe production and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, and production specifications.
• 1–2 years of related fabrication experience.
• Experience operating fabrication shop equipment (benders, welders, saws, drill presses).
• Equivalent combinations of education and work experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily fabrication shop operations and lead 2–3 employees.
• Set up and operate bender and other fabrication machinery.
• Locate and move material using forklift and overhead crane.
• Perform quality checks and ensure products meet specifications.
• Read build sheets and drawings for setup and operation; prepare for changeovers.
• Inspect finished products for accuracy and quality; package per spec.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area; enforce ALARA principles.
• Follow company safety policies and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
