Job summary

nVent in Solon, IA is seeking a Fabrication Operator to perform fabrication operations using hand and power tools, following SOPs and MOPs. You will position materials and tooling, verify dimensions, and help ensure production meets specs.

Qualifications

  • Experience assembling mechanical parts into finished products.

  • Ability to read and work from drawings and blueprints.
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Must be self-motivated and safety-conscious.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and solve root problems to maintain production flow.
  • Demonstrates flexibility by performing rotational assignments as needed.
  • Adheres to department 5S standards daily; maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Maintain equipment and materials necessary to complete the operation.
  • Meets safety, quality, and performance standards to ensure schedules are met.
  • Records accurate information on Manufacturing Orders and maintains records and inventory balances.
  • Complies with safety procedures and reports conditions per escalation procedures.
  • Sets up and operates heavy-duty power equipment to bend, form, stretch and straighten products as per blueprints.
  • Assist with setup and operation of multiple automatic or multi-slide equipment for various products.
  • Understand and work from drawings, order/route sheets, schedules, and written/verbal instructions.
  • Check material for size, type, identification, configuration and color.
  • Assist with dies setup, equipment, forming blocks, and stroke adjustment.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, scales, tape measures, calculators and gauges to check work in process.

As a Fabrication Operator, you will Performs fabrication operations and processes using a wide range of hand and power tools. Performs set-up dutiesin accordance withproduction documentation (SOP/MOPs).Positionsproduction materials and tooling andmaintainsproper dimensions according to print specifications.

WHATYOU WILLEXPERIENCEIN THIS POSITION:
  • Diagnose and solve root problems to ensure production flow ismaintained.

  • Recordsaccurateinformation on Manufacturing Order and performs transactions necessary tomaintainaccuraterecords and inventory balances.
  • Complies withall applicable safety procedures, quality specifications, and 5S Standards. Reports adverse conditions, non-conforming products/procedures, and 5S violations to departmentleaderin accordancetoescalationprocedure.
  • Sets up andoperatesheavy-duty power equipment to bend, form, stretch and straighten a variety of products / materials such as plates, extrusions, structural shapes, etc. as specified by blueprints, layout, and templates.
  • Perform dutiesrequiredtoassistsetup andoperatemultipleautomatic and/or multi-slide equipmentperformsimultaneous processes for a variety of products.
  • Ability to understand and work from drawings, order / route sheets, schedules, written, and verbal instructions.
  • Check material for correct size, type, identification,configurationand color.
  • Assistwith set-up of dies,movableand stationary equipment, forming blocks,adjuststroke and feed as needed.
  • Competentusemicrometers, calipers, scales, tape measures,calculatorsand fixed gauges to check work in process and ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Move materials in the performance of duties usingpalletjack, lift truck or crane (if PIT qualified) as necessary.
  • Install and check safety devices as needed for specific jobs.
  • Report faulty equipment, defective material and unusual conditions to supervisor or otherappropriate resources.
  • Observe and adhere to all prescribed safety rules and regulations andmaintainworkareaina neatand orderly condition.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or directed, which may require more than the normal shift hours or work week to meet company needs.
YOU HAVE:
  • Experience in assembling mechanical parts into a finished product
  • Proven experience of strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skillsnecessary, with the ability to make informed decisions.
  • Good organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment and meet operational deadlines.
  • Must be self-motivated, safety and quality conscious, and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes
  • Experience following work instructions or reading blueprints
  • Experience in using hand and power tools
  • Prior experience working in a light industrial facility preferred
  • Heavy liftingrequired(up to 50lbs).
  • Lift truck operator experience recommended.
