Job summary

QXO, Inc. is seeking a Fabrication Lead for the second shift to coordinate daily fabrication activities, ensure production schedules, quality standards, and on‑time customer delivery. You will lead and coach fabrication staff, monitor workflow and equipment, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to improve safety, productivity and efficiency.

Qualifications

What you'll do:

The Fabrication Lead (Second Shift - 2pm- 10:30pm) is responsible for coordinating daily fabrication activities to ensure production schedules, quality standards, and customer delivery requirements are achieved safely and efficiently. This role provides day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to fabrication employees while monitoring workflow, equipment utilization, production output, and material usage. The Fabrication Lead works closely with Production, Shipping, Maintenance, Quality, and Operations teams to resolve production issues and support continuous improvement. This position may serve as the primary department leader in the Fabrication Supervisor's absence but does not have independent authority for hiring, termination, or disciplinary decisions unless specifically delegated by management.

Fabrication & Production Operations
  • Lead and coordinate daily fabrication activities to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are met
  • Review production demand and coordinate workflow so projects are properly resourced and completed on schedule
  • Ensure priority orders are fabricated, staged, loaded, and ready for scheduled pickup or delivery
  • Monitor production output and identify opportunities to improve workflow, efficiency, and equipment utilization
  • Assist with production scheduling and prioritize work assignments based on operational needs
  • Ensure fabrication machinery, equipment, and control systems are used safely and efficiently
  • Minimize scrap, waste, rework, and avoidable production delays
  • Perform fabrication duties as needed to support production requirements
Team Leadership & Employee Development
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, work direction, coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to fabrication employees
  • Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement throughout the department
  • Assist with training and onboarding new employees
  • Monitor employee performance and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Communicate attendance concerns, performance issues, staffing needs, and development opportunities to the Fabrication Supervisor
  • Support employee engagement and help maintain a positive, productive work environment
Quality Control & Production Support
  • Ensure fabricated products meet company quality standards and customer specifications
  • Enforce established quality-control procedures throughout the fabrication process
  • Monitor material usage and production methods to reduce scrap and improve operational efficiency
  • Identify fabrication defects, process deviations, and production concerns
  • Assist with troubleshooting production issues and implementing corrective actions
  • Coordinate with Production, Shipping, Quality, and Operations teams to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a safety-first culture throughout fabrication operations
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company safety policies, and safe operating procedures
  • Conduct routine safety observations and reinforce safe work practices
  • Ensure employees wear required personal protective equipment
  • Report accidents, injuries, equipment damage, unsafe conditions, and near misses promptly
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, training, and ongoing safety initiatives
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Maintain accurate production documentation, shift records, and operational reports
  • Monitor employee attendance, overtime, vacation schedules, and staffing requirements
  • Communicate production status, priorities, and operational concerns to supervisors and cross-functional teams
  • Perform daily administrative responsibilities assigned by management
  • Carry out delegated supervisory responsibilities in the Fabrication Supervisor's absence
  • Assist with equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs
  • Support continuous-improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

  • Minimum of two years of experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
  • Previous lead, team-lead, or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience in rebar fabrication, steel manufacturing, construction materials, or a related industrial environment preferred
  • Experience operating fabrication machinery and material-handling equipment
  • Experience with welding, cutting, bending, shearing, or related fabrication processes preferred
  • Familiarity with production scheduling, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications is a plus
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing and fabrication facility
  • Frequent exposure to moving machinery, overhead cranes, forklifts, fabrication equipment, dust, noise, vibration, and varying temperatures
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the shift
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 75 pounds, using assistance or mechanical equipment when appropriate
  • Ability to safely operate fabrication and material-handling equipment
  • Ability to work extended hours, overtime, alternate shifts, or occasional weekends based on production requirements
  • Constant attention to safety, quality, productivity, and production schedules is required
