Job Summary

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Fabrication Engineer, you will work to improve Weil‑McLain’s company‑wide cost of quality and assure products, service and manufacturing systems meet company expectations with focus in the fabrication function.

Responsibilities
  • Continuous Improvement: develop and implement Standard Work Instructions; support and expand Lean culture throughout the plant; identify and implement safety improvements.
  • Operational Support and Analysis: provide technical expertise to the Fabrication department for processes such as Turret Press, Stamping Press, Brake Press, Welding, and Powder Paint; evaluate fabrication issues stemming from product design, process variation, incoming products, or employee issues; help develop systems to reduce or eliminate the probability of the issue re‑occurring.
  • Time studies and data development for rates, line balancing and cost estimates; complete workplace improvements, methods, and layouts.
  • New Product Development/Capital Investments: craft capital appropriation requests (E201) with supporting EVA calculations; process engineering change requests (ECR’s); analyze reports and data collected to recommend changes in methods, tooling, and/or equipment to increase productivity, quality, or product value.
Qualifications
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Sheet metal fabrication knowledge.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • Lean manufacturing skills and demonstrated use of the tools.
  • Engineering and process conformance knowledge, including SWI, testing and audit processes, engineering change management.
  • Ability to communicate throughout the company at any level.
  • Ability to lead multi‑department projects and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in standard mechanical and electrical instruments, gauges, and test rigs; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and inspection instructions.
  • Knowledge of ISO requirements.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Proficiency in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly.
  • Ability to learn and navigate PLM and ERP systems.
  • Establish routings for new products.
  • Experience with SolidWorks and Creo.
  • Planning and organizational skills in complex technical functions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities.
  • Achieving results using performance metrics and continuous improvement.
  • Problem solving using disciplined methods and analytical thinking.
  • Fact‑based decision making and risk assessment.
  • Be process‑based and understand process‑based thinking.
  • Experience in stamping, metal forming, and welding environment (preferred).
  • Experience in powder coat (preferred).
  • 5+ years experience in a sheet metal manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • 3+ years experience in quality assurance (desired).
  • B.S. Engineering Degree (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or equivalent).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (preferred).
  • Up to 25% travel; office and plant floor environment; ability to stand for long periods; moderate risk environment requiring personal protective equipment.
