Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior airspace management leader to provide expert consulting on airspace redesign and NextGen initiatives. The role requires deep FAA domain experience and the ability to guide senior officials on regulatory policy and strategic programs.

The candidate will lead cross-functional teams, develop enterprise SOPs, and contribute to major airspace modernization efforts. A Public Trust clearance is required, with a preference for FAA leadership program graduates.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in air traffic control, airspace management, and/or FAA operations.
  • Demonstrated FAA Headquarters experience in airspace services or airspace redesign.
  • Experience briefing senior FAA officials, Congressional staffers, and/or White House staff.
  • Graduate of the FAA ATC Academy or equivalent FAA leadership development program preferred.
  • Public Trust clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead or support cross-functional teams in translating customer needs into system and operational requirements.
  • Develop enterprise artifacts, SOPs, and strategic planning documents.
  • Represent client interests at government advisory committees and international forums such as CANSO and ICAO.
  • Evaluate obstructions affecting navigable airspace and support budget planning for large-scale programs.

Job description

  • Provide expert technical consulting on airspace redesign projects, including development, testing, and analysis of current and proposed airspace design changes throughout the NAS
  • Support development of regulatory policy, rules, standards, and procedures related to navigable airspace
  • Advise senior government officials and agency leadership on airspace management strategies and NextGen initiatives, including PBN implementation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on air traffic control, airspace management, air traffic management, and ANSP issues
  • Facilitate and coordinate responses to inquiries from Congress and other government entities on airspace-related matters
  • Lead or support cross-functional teams in translating customer needs into system and operational requirements
  • Develop enterprise artifacts, SOPs, and strategic planning documents
  • Support shaping, award, and execution of ATEPS and PSS task orders, including requirements development, proposal reviews, and performance oversight
  • Apply BNATCs pipeline, training, and workforce-development knowledge to identify future ATC staffing and training business opportunities
  • Represent client interests at government advisory committees, industry conferences, and international forums such as CANSO and ICAO
  • Evaluate permanent and temporary construction obstructions affecting navigable airspace
  • Support budget planning and resource allocation for large-scale airspace programs
Requirements
  • Minimum 20 years of progressive experience in air traffic control, airspace management, and/or FAA operations
  • Demonstrated FAA Headquarters experience in airspace services or airspace redesign
  • Experience briefing senior FAA officials, Congressional staffers, and/or White House staff
  • Deep knowledge of NextGen programs, including PBN, ERAM, and NAS modernization
  • Experience leading cross-functional, multilayered technical teams
  • Working knowledge of ATEPS and PSS contract vehicles and task order lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with BNATCs, controller hiring pipelines, Academy training pathways, and FAA workforce planning
  • Familiarity with Obstruction Evaluation processes and navigable airspace standards
  • Strong strategic planning, priority-setting, and organizational-alignment background
  • Graduate of the FAA ATC Academy or equivalent FAA leadership development program preferred
  • Graduate of the Federal Executive Institute or equivalent senior executive leadership program preferred
  • Preferred: Deputy Director or Senior Director experience within FAA Airspace Services or equivalent
  • Preferred: Air Traffic Manager experience at a major ARTCC facility
  • Preferred: Experience managing large budgets, including PC&B budgets exceeding $100 million
  • Preferred: Familiarity with NAVTAC or similar government contract vehicles
  • Preferred: Aviation-sector industry relations, business development, and strategic partnerships experience
  • Preferred: Participation in NextGen Advisory Council working groups or similar bodies
  • Preferred: Ability to leverage BNATCs and ATC workforce knowledge for proposals and business opportunities
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation, Business, or a related field preferred; significant relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
