Job summary

Metal Finishing Technologies, LLC is seeking a skilled abrasive blasting technician to prepare metal and composite surfaces for repairs or coatings on site in Bristol, CT. The role requires safe operation of blasting equipment, adherence to FAA drug and alcohol testing requirements, and the ability to read work orders, handle materials up to 50 pounds, and maintain PPE and tools.

Responsibilities

• Operates abrasive blasting equipment including sand blasting machines and portable air compressors.
• Prepares surfaces by removing rust, scale, paint and coatings.
• Selects appropriate abrasive media for surface and task.
• Maintains equipment including hoses and nozzles.
• Adheres to safety protocols and uses PPE.
• Follows work orders and reads instructions.
• Identifies parts from visual/electronic descriptions.
• Prepares parts for subsequent processes like painting or anodizing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

The candidate will efficiently prepare metal and composite surfaces for repairs or coatings by using compressed air to propel abrasive materials against the surface. Because this position is regulated by the FAA, the selected candidate must comply with all FAA drug and alcohol testing requirements, including random testing. Marijuana use is not permitted for employees working in FAA-covered roles.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operates abrasive blasting equipment which includes sand blasting machines, portable air compressors, and relaxed tools
• Prepares the surface by removing contaminants like rust, scale, paint, and coatings to prepare for repairs or painting
• Chooses the appropriate abrasive media like sand, grit, shot for the specific surface and task
• Maintains equipment by cleaning and ensuring it includes both hoses and nozzles
• Adheres to safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Follow instructions by reading and understanding work order requirements
• Identifies parts based on visual and/or electronic descriptions
• Prepares parts for subsequent processes, such as painting, anodizing, or surface treatments
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• HS diploma (or equivalent) and 1+ year/years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English proficiently in accordance with FAA guidelines
• Must be familiar with all FAA processes and SPOPS
• Attentiveness to detail and sensitivity to the nature of the position
• Be familiar with the processing of all substrates encountered on the line
• Be familiar with stripping procedures for applicable processes
• Must have the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

The hourly pay range for this role is 21 USD - 27 USD. The pay range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
