Role Summary and Strategic Impact

The Shipping & Loading Technician plays a vital role in ensuring materials, equipment, and tools are loaded, secured, transported, and staged efficiently to support construction projects. This position focuses on loading and unloading trucks, organizing shipments, preparing materials for delivery, and maintaining an organized yard and warehouse to keep field crews productive.

Truck Loading & Shipping
  • Load company trucks with materials, tools, and equipment for daily deliveries.
  • Verify materials are loaded accurately according to delivery tickets or work orders.
  • Secure loads using proper tie-down methods to ensure safe transportation.
  • Unload incoming deliveries using forklifts, cranes, or other material handling equipment.
  • Assist drivers with loading, unloading, and staging materials for transport.
Material Staging & Job Site Support
  • Pull and stage materials for upcoming projects.
  • Organize materials by project or crew for efficient loading.
  • Coordinate with warehouse personnel, project managers, and field supervisors to ensure materials are ready when needed.
  • Assist with loading emergency or last-minute material requests.
  • Deliver materials to various departments within the warehouse or yard.
Yard & Warehouse Operations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and laydown yard.
  • Organize pipe, fittings, equipment, and construction materials.
  • Store materials in designated locations for easy retrieval.
  • Operate forklifts and other equipment safely.
  • Assist with housekeeping, equipment maintenance, and warehouse organization.
Receiving Support
  • Inspect incoming shipments for visible damage.
  • Compare received materials to packing slips and notify management of discrepancies.
  • Help stock received materials in designated warehouse locations.
Safety
  • Follow OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Perform daily inspections of forklifts and warehouse equipment.
  • Properly use PPE while loading, unloading, and handling materials.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for employees and visitors.
Required Qualifications and Competencies

Experience: Warehouse, shipping, loading, construction, or material handling experience preferred. Experience loading flatbed trailers or work trucks is highly preferred. Forklift experience preferred (or willingness to become certified).

Skills: Ability to safely load and secure construction materials. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills. Dependable and punctual.

Physical Requirements: Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Stand, bend, climb, kneel, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
