Job Description: Extrusion Process Engineer / Plastics Engineer
Fusion Optix, a leading manufacturer in the field of advanced lighting solutions, is seeking a talented and skilled engineer to join our Extruded Optics production team, focused on production of light management optics and linear functional profiles. The successful candidate will play an important role, utilizing your expertise in extrusion processes and materials to develop and optimize production methods. You will also contribute to continuous improvement, LEAN and new product development. Responsibilities
- Daily setup and optimization of extrusion equipment for manufacturing optical profiles and linear optics, ensuring operators can meet consistent quality and meeting production targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to select and develop materials suitable for extrusion processes, considering performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Troubleshooting and resolving any process-related issues to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Implement process monitoring systems to ensure real-time control of critical variables, identify deviations, and take corrective actions as needed to maintain product quality and optimize efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement, and drive implementation through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with relevant teams.
- Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure adherence to specifications and standards, including conducting regular inspections, measurements, and tests.
- Maintain accurate records of process parameters, experiments, and results. Prepare reports on process performance, yield, and efficiency for management review.
- Collaborate with R&D, design, manufacturing, and quality teams to translate product requirements into manufacturing processes, ensuring seamless transfer from design to production.
- Provide technical support to operators and technicians involved in extrusion processes, ensuring their understanding of processes and equipment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Plastics or Materials Engineering preferred) or a related field.
- Hands-on experience of operating extruders and a solid understanding of plastics extrusion processes and downstream equipment, particularly in the context of manufacturing tight-specification products.
- Proficiency in extrusion process optimization, troubleshooting, and equipment setup and maintenance.
- Knowledge of various extrusion materials, including polymers and additives, and their properties.
- Experience with process monitoring and control, statistical process control (SPC), and quality assurance techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and drive projects to completion.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
- Familiarity with optical design, lighting applications, or related fields is desirable.
