Job summary

Mars is seeking an Extruder Operator for the Royal Canin facility in Fremont, NE. This night shift position (6 PM–6:30 AM) is part of an area team responsible for efficient production of high-quality products.

You will operate and change over extrusion equipment and support QA, maintenance, and sanitation tasks to meet production goals. Responsibilities include operating multiple production systems, performing quality checks, maintaining CCPs, and adhering to safety and food safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
• Willing and able to work the night shift (6 PM–6:30 AM) on a 2-2-3 rotation.
• Able to communicate effectively in English.
• Experience operating a variety of manufacturing machines is required.

Responsibilities

• Operate extrusion, drying, coating, cooling, product transfer, and cleaning equipment.
• Follow Mars Petcare procedures to ensure safety, quality and efficiency.
• Perform production and processing tasks per schedules and requirements.
• Conduct quality checks and document results per Quality Procedures.
• Maintain CCPs and perform CCP procedures per SOPs.
• Assist in inventories, housekeeping, and maintenance activities.
• Communicate with staff to optimize quality, efficiency, and safety.
• Adhere to Mars Petcare safety and food safety programs.

The Extruder Operator functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. This role will operate/change over specified machinery in the assigned area. Extruder Operators must ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality, and continuous improvement. Extruder Operators must have the skill set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills to support site objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate extrusion, drying, coating, cooling, product transfer, and cleaning equipment and systems
• Operate production and processing systems in accordance with Mars Petcare Operating Procedures; in a safe, productive, and efficient manner at all times.
• Perform Processing operational activity according to production and planning schedules and requirements
• Perform required Quality Control checks and/or analysis on each production of processed and coated materials in accordance with Mars Petcare Quality Procedures.
• Maintain CCPs in the department
• Perform the CCP procedure according to SOPs
• Perform periodic and routine inventories of raw materials in storage
• Provide and perform routine maintenance and checks on equipment
• Provide reporting and documentation of Quality, Production, Maintenance, and Sanitation activities in accordance with Mars Petcare Operating Procedures
• Assist in other production, sanitation, maintenance, and quality activity in other areas as directed.
• Provide functional communications with other staff members as necessary to optimize quality, efficiency, productivity, and safety.
• Perform all duties in compliance with Mars Petcare Quality Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices.
• Adhere to all Mars Petcare safety requirements.
• Perform housekeeping and sanitation procedures in accordance with Mars Petcare’s Food Safety and Sanitation Program.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Assist the plant to meet or exceed production goals.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment that promotes associate safety and product integrity.
• All associates are responsible for the safety, quality, and food safety in their work area.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

• Standing on a concrete floor
• Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, earplugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
• Bending, stooping, twisting, turning, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55lbs
• Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt, and chemicals
• Vision correctable to 20/20

Education & Professional Qualifications

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Have a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent education
• Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
• Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language

Knowledge / Experience

• 3+ years of manufacturing experience operating a variety of machines
• 2 years of work experience within manufacturing, or a technical and/or trade discipline
• Demonstrated competency in computer and pc software including MS Office and email
• Knowledge of inventory control principles
• Ability to operate a forklift and scissor lift
