Job Title

Extrusion Operator

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is looking for an extrusion operator.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs regular and routine inspection of line to ensure the production of a first quality product, taking corrective action when quality defects are encountered.
  2. Verifies equipment settings are correct.
  3. Threads/ties in line following correct procedure.
  4. Doffs, ties, and inspects all finished packages for defects to ensure a quality product.
  5. Applies correct product label with operator ID on each finished package and places in tray on packing rail.
  6. Prepares pallets, boxes, tops, bottoms, and dividers for direct packout.
  7. Prepares a bar code label for container of production.
  8. Repairs all breakouts and restarts line as soon as possible.
  9. Responsible for dispositioning cordage packages.
  10. Performs color changes following correct procedure.
  11. Responsible for proper shutdown/startup procedure.
  12. Responsible for making sure proper specifications are placed on the job.
  13. Responsible for product standards.
  14. Responsible for handling cake and aspirator waste.
  15. Maintains accurate records of all downtime.
  16. Performs minor mechanical repair work as needed.
  17. Communicates with off-going/on-coming shift the status of the lines conditions.
  18. Works closely with Management when changing products, shutting down, or starting up the line.
  19. Responsible for numbering and placing tubes in the tube holders.
  20. Responsible for breaking down concentrate and resin boxes for recycling.
  21. Performs ERP (Experimental Run Process) testing based on the ERP instructions and process specification sheet.
  22. Identifies all non-conformances and follows all SMS procedures where applicable.
  23. Ensures all packages taken to the lab for testing are properly identified.
  24. Responsible for placing all recycled materials in the proper storage containers.
  25. Operates lift truck as required.
  26. Performs lift truck check list as required.
  27. Changes and maintains lift truck battery as required.
  28. Adheres to all lock out/tag out procedures.
  29. Maintains all equipment in a safe and operable condition.
  30. Uses hand tools properly and safely.
  31. Performs housekeeping as required in work area.
  32. Enters maintenance data in CMMS EZ Entry as required.
  33. Complies with Total Productive Manufacturing (TPM) System requirements.
  34. Complies with procedures found in Shaw Management System (SMS).
  35. Actively participates in the Quality P.R.I.D.E. Process.
  36. Performs all job duties using safe work methods.
  37. Complies with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.
  38. Complies with S.A.F.E. System procedures.
  39. Works normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Works overtime as required.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry, climb, and reach as required.
  2. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds as required.
  3. Must be able to work with hands over head as required.
  4. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs/ladders as required.
  5. Must be able to withstand higher than normal heated environment as required.
  6. Must be able to push a pallet jack and waste as required.

Other Requirements:

  1. Must be able to distinguish between colors.
  2. Must successfully complete Lift Truck Operator certification.
  3. Must possess good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  4. Must be able to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and overtime as required.
  5. Must perform any other job duties as assigned by supervision.

Training Requirements:

  1. Must attend a one (1) day orientation training session familiarizing new associates with the Plant and basic procedures.
  2. Must attend Quality and Safety training as required.
  3. Must participate in an on-the-job training session familiarizing the new associates with their job duties.
  4. Must complete training on CMMS EZ Entry.

Tool, Equipment, & Material Requirements:

Responsible for safety equipment issued including safety glasses and earplugs. Responsible for equipment, materials, and supplies necessary to perform assigned tasks.

Safety & Security Requirements:

  1. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.
  2. Must report any unsafe conditions to supervision.
  3. Must report all accidents no matter how slight to supervision immediately.
  4. Must wear personal protective equipment as required while on the job.
  5. Must comply with all plant and department safety rules and regulations.
  6. Must wear toe-protective safety shoes.

Work Shift:

12 Hr rotating shift, hours fall to in punch day, Act Calendar, days & AM/PM start time changes in the rotation.
