Job summary

ABX Innovative Packaging Solutions is seeking an Extruder/Laminator Operator for the 2nd shift (6 PM-6 AM) in Schaumburg, IL. The role requires setting up extrusion lines, ensuring product quality, and maintaining safe operation of equipment.

The candidate should have at least 2 years of extrusion or lamination experience, knowledge of resins, and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. ABX offers strong benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Working knowledge of extrusion lines or related equipment in the department.
• Math and measurement proficiency with production figures.
• Minimum of 2 years on extrusion or lamination line.
• Knowledge of polyethylene resins and how they behave under extrusion conditions.
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and use measuring tools.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate all extrusion lines in the department.
• Check and maintain product quality (width, gauge, clarity, roll appearance).
• Monitor machine conditions to ensure quality, production and safe operation.
• Assist with screen and die changes.
• Meet product quality, safety and production standards.
• Train and lead extrusion assistants.
• Complete shift reports and production forms; track pounds produced and waste.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to correctly setup and operate all extrusion lines in the department
• Must be able to check and maintain product quality, width, gauge, treat, clarity, and roll appearance for all machines running
• Check operating conditions of all machines to ensure quality, production, and safe operation of equipment
• Assist with, or make, screen and die changes
• Meet all product quality, safety and production standards
• Ensure all extruders or laminators are running at maximum output
• Ensure equipment is being operated safely
• Train and provide leadership to extrusion assistants
• Understand and complete shift reports, production forms, process conditions, pounds of production and waste, etc.
• Follow AIB guidelines
• Detect and report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor immediately
• Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety instructions
• Participate in ongoing CI and Focus improvement processes
• Must be able to understand and carry out detailed written and verbal instructions
• Perform miscellaneous duties as required by supervision

Qualifications & Experience

• Possess a working knowledge of extrusion lines or any other equipment related to the department
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide when working with set production figures
• Must be able to weigh in pounds and ounces, measure in feet and inches and measure film gauge in thousandths of an inch
• Minimum of 2-years working on extrusion or lamination line
• Working knowledge of different polyethylene resins and different grades and how they behave under different extrusion condition
• This position has operations that require muscular coordination, proper lifting techniques and required lifting up to 35 pounds, hoist is available for use.
• Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, and bend
• Must be able to use measuring tape
• Must be able to use metric measurement tape
• The noise level in the working environment is usually loud (80-90 decibels)
• The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes and or airborne particles
• Hazards include but not limited to: mobile equipment, powered hand trucks, winders and edge guides, haul-off and winder nip rollers, molten resin and hot dies, high voltage equipment (treaters), and slitting blades and cut-off knives
