Job summary

Ascend Wellness Holdings (AWH) is seeking an Extraction Lab Lead to oversee daily cannabis extraction operations, equipment use, and production workflows in our New Jersey facility. You will supervise Extraction Technicians, ensure safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, and mentor staff.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong documentation habits, and knowledge of extraction methods. Schedule is Mon-Fri 11:00am–7:30pm; compensation is $24.00 per hour.

JOB SUMMARY

The Extraction Lab Lead reports directly to the Manager, Extraction Lab and is responsible for supporting the daily operations of cannabis extraction while helping drive safe, efficient, and compliant production. This hands-on leadership role performs and oversees extraction processes, equipment operation and maintenance, production workflows, and quality control activities while providing day-to-day direction, training, and support to Extraction Technicians. The Extraction Lab Lead promotes consistency, productivity, and adherence to company policies, safety protocols, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements. Work is performed throughout the cannabis cultivation and processing facility with regular exposure to cannabis plants, cannabis oils, terpenes, solvents, hazardous chemicals, and cannabis-related odors, as well as varying temperatures, loud production equipment, and other conditions typical of commercial cannabis extraction and processing operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Extraction Operations: Operate and monitor extraction equipment in accordance with established SOPs, safety requirements, and production schedules to ensure consistent product quality and output
• Team Leadership: Lead daily extraction activities and provide direction, training, and support to Extraction Technicians to meet production goals and maintain operational efficiency
• Compliance & Safety: Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety protocols, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements throughout all extraction operations
• Quality Control: Perform in-process quality checks and maintain accurate batch records, production documentation, and operational logs
• Training & Development: Train, mentor, and support new Extraction Technicians on extraction procedures, equipment operation, and safe work practices

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITES

• Assist with equipment cleaning, calibration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance activities

• Support inventory tracking and reconciliation of raw materials, consumables, and finished goods
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Compliance teams during audits, inspections, and investigations
• Provide recommendations to the Manager, Extraction Lab regarding process improvements, operational efficiencies, and team performance
• Maintain knowledge of extraction technologies, industry trends, and best practices
• Follow all company policies and ensure compliance with local and state cannabis regulations
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a state Registered Agent Card or equivalent state credentials
• Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent
• 1+ year of proven leadership experience or commensurate experience
• One (1) year of experience in cannabis extraction, laboratory operations, or a related manufacturing environment
• Working knowledge of CO2, ethanol, hydrocarbon, or similar extraction methods
• Strong understanding of workplace safety practices, SOP compliance, and regulatory requirements
• Ability to maintain accurate production records and documentation
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer-based systems

PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS

• One (1) year of experience in a cannabis extraction laboratory or related processing environment
• Familiarity with METRC, BioTrack, or other seed-to-sale tracking systems
• Experience training, mentoring, or providing day-to-day direction to team members
• Certification or specialized training in laboratory safety, extraction technologies, or related disciplines
• Associate degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field
• Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and regulatory compliance
