Job Summary

The Athletic Game Day Operations staff provides customer service and operational support for Chicago State University Athletics events. Responsibilities include ticket window operations, will call, ticket scanning, ushering, event set-up and breakdown, ball shagging, floor mopping, and other game-day duties as assigned.

This position supports football, basketball, volleyball, and soccer while helping provide a safe, organized, and enjoyable game-day experience for fans and guests through exceptional customer service and professionalism.

Job Description

Ticket Window & Customer Service

Sport: Football, Basketball

  • Sell single-game tickets, distribute season tickets, group tickets, premium seating, and special event packages.
  • Assist customers with ticket purchases in person, over the phone, and through online ticketing platforms.
  • Provide accurate information regarding ticket prices, seating locations, promotions, parking, game schedules, and venue policies.
  • Resolve customer concerns and ticket-related issues in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while creating a welcoming environment for all patrons.
Event Set-Up & Breakdown
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of all game day equipment and event spaces.
  • Set up tables, chairs, barricades, stanchions, and signage
  • Install and remove sponsor signage, banners, and promotional materials.
  • Assist with locker room, team bench, scorer’s table, and field/court preparation.
  • Ensure all game day equipment is properly stored following each event.
  • Assist with postgame cleanup and restoration of the venue.
  • Report damaged equipment or facility concerns to the Game Operations Manager.
  • Perform additional game day duties as assigned.

Ball Shagger
  • Retrieve and return balls that leave the field of play.
  • Ensure replacement balls are readily available during play.
  • Respond promptly to officials, players, and game administrators.
  • Remain alert throughout the contest to minimize game interruptions.
  • Follow instructions provided by game officials and event staff.
  • Retrieve volleyball during warm-ups and competition.
  • Quickly provide game balls to officials when needed.
  • Assist with efficient game flow by returning balls to the serving team.
  • Remain attentive and positioned throughout the match.
  • Support officials and game management staff as directed.
Ticket Scanner

Sports: Football, Basketball

  • Welcome guests in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Scan mobile and printed tickets using the university ticketing system.
  • Verify ticket validity and assist guests with entry questions.
  • Maintain entrance security by ensuring every guest has a valid ticket.
  • Provide excellent customer service throughout the event.
Usher
  • Greet guests and provide exceptional customer service.
  • Assist fans in locating their assigned seats.
  • Monitor seating areas and aisles throughout the event.
  • Enforce facility policies and assist with crowd management.
  • Respond to guest questions regarding seating, restrooms, concessions, and stadium amenities.
  • Assist with ADA seating and accessibility needs.
  • Notify supervisors of any safety or security concerns.
  • Help maintain a safe and enjoyable game day atmosphere.
Sport: Basketball Only
  • Maintain a clean and dry playing surface throughout the game.
  • Quickly respond to officials’ requests during stoppages in play.
  • Remove moisture, debris, or spills from the court to ensure player safety.
  • Remain attentive and positioned courtside throughout the contest.
Will Call Operations

Sport: Football, Basketball

  • Prepare and organize Will Call tickets prior to events.
  • Verify customer identification and distribute tickets accurately.
  • Maintain organized Will Call records and assist with troubleshooting ticketing issues.
  • Process ticket transactions accurately while following university cash-handling procedures.
  • Assist with opening and closing ticket office operations before and after events.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional ticket office environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in ticket sales, customer service, retail, hospitality, or event operations.
  • Experience using ticketing software such as TicketReturn or similar ticketing platforms.
  • Experience operating point-of-sale systems and handling cash transactions.
  • Knowledge of NCAA athletics and collegiate sporting events.
  • Previous experience working in athletics, entertainment, or live event environment.

Physical Requirement/ Demands

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during events.
  • Ability to walk throughout athletic venues and ticket locations.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and finger movements while operating computers, ticket scanners, printers, and point-of-sale equipment.
  • Ability to navigate stairs, concourses, and stadium or arena facilities.
  • May be required to work in confined/narrow spaces
  • Ability to work in variable temperatures, including extreme hot and cold weather based on the season.
