Job Description

Title: Coach / Extra-Curricular Activity Sponsor

Primary Function: To provide instruction and leadership in the extracurricular program that will enhance student success individually or as a team through competition.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with educational personnel, parents, students, and others.
• Cooperate with school administration and develop positive rapport with all coaching staff within the school system.
• Organize and lead coaching staff, ensuring appropriate conduct during practice.
• Attend Virginia High School League rules clinics and follow league, conference, and VHSL policies.
• Motivate staff and players toward desired goals, setting examples of appearance, manners, behavior, and language.
• Adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
• Present oneself as a positive role model for students, staff, and parents.
• Plan and design strategies for teaching sports skills and management systems.
• Develop high‑caliber instructions, teach fundamental skills, and care for equipment and uniforms.
• Inventory equipment, discipline the team appropriately, and organize quality practice schedules.
• Design managerial and support personnel roles, hold pre‑practice meetings, and treat assistants fairly.
• Utilize assistant coaches’ strengths, provide growth opportunities, and evaluate them using written feedback.
• Supervise managers and support personnel, manage budget, and follow purchasing procedures.
• Follow end‑of‑season procedures.
• Perform other job‑related duties assigned by the activities director and/or principal.
