Peraton seeks an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our federal modernization initiative in Suitland, MD, with hybrid work options. You will drive end-to-end systems engineering across a large-scale transformation to a data-centric, cloud-native ecosystem, coordinating across multiple teams and aligning architecture with delivery.

You will lead the implementation of DevSecOps practices, ensure performance, security, and reliability, and mentor engineering teams as you translate designs

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and 16 years of experience or an Associates degree and 18 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 20 years of experience.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 15+ years of experience in systems engineering, integration, or technical leadership roles.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale, complex IT systems or modernization programs.
  • Strong experience with systems engineering principles, including requirements, integration, and validation.
  • Experience integrating complex systems across applications, data platforms, and infrastructure.
  • Experience working in cloud-based environments and modern distributed systems.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps practices and system engineering within CI/CD environments.
  • Ability to manage system complexity across multiple teams and technical domains.
  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) preferred.
  • Agile certifications (Scrum, SAFe, or similar) preferred.
  • Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) preferred.
  • Experience supporting large-scale federal programs.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems or real-time processing environments.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals.

This position supports Peraton's federal customer as part of an application transformation and modernization initiative.

This program is driving a large-scale transformation of systems into a data-centric, cloud-native ecosystem capable of supporting high-volume, near real-time data processing and advanced analytics. The work includes modernization of legacy applications, development of new cloud-native solutions, and implementation of DevSecOps and scaled Agile practices across the organization.

As a Lead Systems Engineer at Peraton, you will drive end-to-end systems engineering execution across a large-scale federal modernization program.

You will operate between architecture and delivery—ensuring that system designs are translated into working, integrated, and scalable solutions. You will lead engineering efforts across multiple teams, coordinating system integration, requirements alignment, and technical execution.

Location: Suitland, MD (Hybrid)

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
