We’re hiring a public relations professional—a strong storyteller who knows how to turn product innovation into headlines and build the media relationships that make it happen. As our External Communications Manager, you’ll own the development and execution of PR and media relations for Sage in North America, our most important growth region, with a focus on our AI-powered accounting and financial management product, Sage Intacct.
You’ll drive external communications across these core areas: corporate and product, vertical industry campaigns, customer storytelling, and executive communications. This includes managing our PR agency, securing earned media coverage, and shaping messaging for our EVP of Product. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across product, marketing, and customer teams to identify compelling stories and bring them to life externally.
This role is built for a strong writer who understands how to take complex software capabilities and translate them into compelling, media-ready stories that resonate with financial professionals (CFOs, Controllers, Accountants) and business press alike. Location: Hybrid – 3 days per week of in-person collaboration from Atlanta office (Ponce City Market)
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in public relations, media relations, external communications (must be PR-focused, not marketing)
- Experience in B2B industries such as SaaS/Software, tech, financial services, or telecommunications
- A strong communicator and storyteller—skilled at simplifying complex information and tailoring content to different vertical/industries
- Self-starter who thrives with autonomy and doesn’t need to talk through every decision
- Known for being collaborative, open, and engaged with cross-functional teams
- Confident working with agencies and managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent copywriting skills and familiarity with AP style; you can provide examples of clear, media-ready content.
Key Responsibilities:
- Media Relations: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and key media outlets. Proactively pitch stories and secure positive media coverage for Sage in partnership with our agency. Stay up-to-date on industry trends and ensure Sage's positioning aligns with market expectation.
- Product: Plan and execute strategic communication campaigns for new product launches. Coordinate with product teams to create compelling narratives for technology products.
- Customer: Work with our customer teams, sales and marketing to develop external stories for media
- Content Management: Develop and distribute press releases to announce company news, product announcements, achievements, and updates. Ensure press releases align with the overall corporate messaging strategy.
- Executive Communication: Assist executives in preparing for media interviews, speeches, and public appearances. Craft messaging that aligns with the company's values and goals.
- Thought Leadership: Position executives as thought leaders in the technology industry. Develop and place articles, bylines, and commentary in relevant industry publications.
- Metrics and Reporting: Track and analyze PR campaign metrics to measure the effectiveness of communication strategies. Provide regular reports on media coverage, sentiment analysis, and key performance indicators.
