  • Collaborate with state specialists to implement statewide volunteer committees and related efforts.
  • Regularly review and revise volunteer policies and procedures for 4-H and other extension programs.
  • Provide statewide leadership for volunteer education and recognition and support county professionals in volunteer recruitment.
  • Create training for staff with volunteer management responsibilities and lead professional development for volunteers.
  • Evaluate impacts of the UW Extension volunteer program at various levels and communicate results.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to volunteers and Extension educators to ensure compliance with codes of conduct and policies.

JOB TITLE:

Associate University Extension Educator, Extension VolunteerDevelopment Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:

The individual in this position will provide leadership, guidance,organization, management, and educational opportunities to supportvolunteer development as part of the UW Extension 4-H YouthDevelopment team. This position will also be called upon to consultwith, or provide volunteer training for, other Extension programs,such as Master Gardeners, as appropriate. This individual needsexpertise in principles of volunteer program management, positiveyouth development, conflict management, background screening,training development, and overall risk management with applicationto participant safety.

The individual in this position works under the guidance andsupervision of the UW Extension, 4-H Program Leader with input fromthe UW Extension Director/Associate Dean for the College ofAgriculture, Life Sciences, and Natural Resources (CALSNR) and theUW Extension Associate Director supervising the 4-H program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop volunteer leadership best practices, curricula,training opportunities, and professional development for UWExtension.
  • Lead the development of, and provide updates to, a volunteermanagement monitoring system to streamline required documentationand coordinate risk management efforts, including background checksfor volunteers.
  • Work cohesively with state level program area specialists toimplement a statewide volunteer committee, conference, and otherefforts as needed.
  • Regularly review and revise volunteer policies and proceduresfor 4-H and other extension programs.
  • Provide statewide leadership for volunteer education andrecognition as well as the support of county extensionprofessionals in the recruitment of engaged volunteers.
  • Develop and implement training for support staff with volunteermanagement responsibilities.
  • Lead professional development and enrichment experiences forvolunteers.
  • Evaluate and communicate the impacts of the UW Extensionvolunteer program at local, regional, state, and federallevels.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to volunteers and UW Extensioneducators in order to ensure volunteer code of conduct and policiesare followed. This includes overseeing any volunteer correctiveactions, in coordination with UW Extension educators and theWyoming State 4-H Program Leader.
  • Engage with other offices at the University of Wyoming, asneeded and including but not limited to, Human Resources, GeneralCounsel, Risk, Internal Audit, Equal Employment Opportunity,etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Completed master's degree. Conferred degree must be involunteer development, youth development, agriculture education,extension education, K-12 education, or a closely relatedfield.
  • 5+ years professional experience relevant to the Essential JobDuties (below) of this position.
  • Coursework and/or professional experience must provide a broadand significant understanding of volunteer development, youthdevelopment, educational leadership, extension education, riskmanagement, human resources, and/or community vitality, along witha high degree of subject matter competence in these areas.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR)compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.
Experience Evaluation

Minimum experience requirements are evaluated on a full-timeequivalent (FTE) basis. Relevant part-time experience will beprorated based on hours worked. For example, two years working anaverage of 20 hours per week is equivalent to approximately oneyear of full-time experience.

Applicants must include the average hours worked per week for allcurrent and previous positions. Failure to provide this informationmay affect the evaluation of qualifications.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Ph.D. in volunteer development, youth development,agriculture education, extension education, K-12 education, or aclosely related field.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in Positive Youth Developmentand adult learning theory.
  • Experience or course work in audience-needs identification,program development, experiential learning, and programevaluation.

WORK LOCATION:

The office location for this position hasflexibility to be in several UW Extension offices with a preferencefor being in the state office located on campus at the Universityof Wyoming in Laramie. An individual in this position is expectedto maintain a presence in the state office to effectively balancethe duties of the position. The work schedule will vary, andoccasional nights and weekend work and travel will be necessary. Remote work is not offered for this position.
