Job summary

NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a Supervising Public Health Adviser assigned to one of the Bureau's Express Clinics. The role reports to the Director of the Express Clinics and will oversee clinic operations, PPE inventory, EMR/EPIC activities, and staff supervision.

The position requires strong supervisory experience in public health, plus ability to coordinate referrals and monitor case trends.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field with supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising staff in public health settings is required.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EPIC and clinical workflows is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee clinic scheduling and PPE inventory.
  • Manage EMR/EPIC activities, documentation, and records per guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate follow-up referrals for positive cases (COVID, STI, HIV).
  • Monitor and analyze positive case data with the Director.
  • Supervise onboarding and training of staff.
  • Prepare and submit reports as needed.
  • Coordinate with PHL, HP, and Clinic-Ops.

Division / Program Summary

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics‑Sexually Transmitted Infections has the mission of improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers. It provides direct clinic services, services to sex partners, monitors disease trends, provides education and training to providers and community groups, conducts research, and develops policies to improve sexual health and wellness. The Bureau operates 8 Sexual Health clinics throughout New York City.

Position Summary

The Supervising Public Health Adviser will be assigned to one of the Bureau's Express Clinics and report directly to the Director of the Express Clinics.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage clinic schedule.
  • Manage PPE and supply inventory.
  • Manage all EMR/EPIC activities, documentation, and appropriate tracking systems, logs and medical records according to BPHC guidelines.
  • Ensure appropriate follow‑up referrals of positive cases (including COVID and STI/HIV tests).
  • Assist Director in monitoring and analyzing positive cases.
  • Oversee staff supervision, onboarding and training.
  • Prepare and submit reports as needed.
  • Supervise all testing activities, including COVID, STI, HIV and post‑test advising.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with staff and management to meet employee and client needs.
  • Coordinate with PHL, HP, and Clinic‑Ops.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree and two years of full‑time public health experience with supervisory capacity; or
  • An associate degree plus twelve semester credits in health education or related sciences and four years of relevant experience with supervisory capacity; or
  • A four‑year high school diploma and six years of relevant experience with supervisory capacity; or
  • A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above, with substitution allowances as described.
