Job summary

BCG Attorney Search seeks a qualified Associate or Counsel to join its International Trade practice in New York, NY. The candidate should have 3–6 years of experience in U.S. export controls (EAR/ITAR) and a JD.

Responsibilities include guiding on regulatory compliance, licensing, due diligence, and self-disclosures for cross‑border matters. Ideal candidates possess strong writing and analytical skills, bar admission or eligibility, and a track record of academic excellence.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in U.S. export controls.
• Experience with EU and UK export controls regimes is a plus.
• Experience with encryption and emerging technologies is a plus.
• Experience with economic sanctions, outbound investment, and CFIUS is a plus.
• Member of the state bar or eligible for admission by waiver.
• Excellent academic credentials.
• Strong organizational, writing, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide regulatory and compliance guidance on EAR and ITAR.
• Conduct jurisdiction and classification analysis, including Commodity Jurisdiction and CCATS requests.
• Obtain export licenses and analyze license exceptions and exemptions.
• Conduct party screening and due diligence.
• Review and prepare DDTC registrations and related filings.
• Develop international trade compliance programs.
• Provide export controls compliance training.
• Represent clients in voluntary self-disclosures and M&A-related trade compliance diligence.
• Perform internal investigations and audits related to export control concerns.
