Job summary

Critical Materials Group is seeking a Safety and Compliance Officer to lead on-site safety, health, and regulatory programs at the Talpa, TX campus. The role enforces procedures, conducts inspections, and drives a strong safety culture in explosives manufacturing.

You will support ATF/OSHA requirements, maintain records, coordinate training, and collaborate with the Director of Safety and Compliance to ensure daily operations meet policy and industry standards.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in safety, health, or a related field required; bachelor’s preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of occupational safety experience, including at least 1 year in explosives/high-hazard manufacturing.
• Familiarity with ATF recordkeeping and OSHA recordkeeping/inspections.
• OSHA 30-Hour General Industry training required or obtainable within 6 months of hire.
• First Aid/ CPR/ AED certification required or obtainable shortly after hire.
• DOT Hazardous Materials training within 90 days of hire; recurrent every 3 years.
• Must satisfy ATF eligibility for explosives handler status (27 CFR Part 555).

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily safety walkthroughs of manufacturing areas, process bays, storage magazines, and support facilities; document findings and elevate deficiencies.
• Verify engineering controls, exclusion zones, grounding/bonding, static-control, explosive limits, magazine occupancy, and Q-D requirements.
• Exercise stop-work authority on imminent hazards; secure area and escalate promptly.
• Respond to accidents, injuries, near-misses, and spills; support investigations and draft reports.
• Maintain ATF A&D records and daily summaries; conduct routine explosive inventory checks and magazine inspections.
• Support OSHA 29 CFR Part 1910 compliance and OSHA recordkeeping.
• Support DOT hazardous materials compliance for Class 1 explosives; assist in shipping papers and labeling.
• Draft and maintain the facility’s Site Safety and Health Plan (SSHP).
• Issue, inspect, and track PPE; administer permits; support JHA reviews.
• Deliver safety/compliance training and maintain SMIS records.
