Job Description
CD PROJEKT RED is seeking an Expert Technical Artist specializing in Graphics to join our studio in Boston for the development of Cyberpunk 2, the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The ideal candidate will bring extensive expertise, artistic and programming skills, attention to detail, and a passion for creating visually stunning content that aligns with our artistic and technical ambitions.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with graphics engineers, designers, artists, and developers to understand visual targets and ensure rendering approaches meet our creative and technical objectives.
- Develop look-dev processes to establish and achieve high visual standards, translating them into real-time execution strategies.
- Prototype, test, and extend rendering systems within Unreal Engine 5.
- Research emerging trends and advancements in rendering technology.
- Create and maintain procedures to ensure visual consistency and integration across different scalability targets.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve rendering and performance issues.
- Help establish GPU budgets and content memory allocations, guiding content developers accordingly.
- Develop tools and unit tests to enable artists to deploy optimized and high-performance content.
- Promote cross-functional collaboration to ensure solutions effectively integrate into all system components.
- Mentor and guide the art team on best practices and technical approaches for building and rendering the game world.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the video game industry, focusing on rendering, shading, lighting, VFX, or real-time graphics.
- Deep understanding of GPU workflows, especially using Unreal Engine 5.
- Proven experience developing efficient shaders and materials that balance visual quality and real-time performance.
- Strong skills in HLSL, GSL, or similar shader programming languages.
- Experience with node-based shading systems.
- Familiarity with DirectX 12 or comparable graphics APIs.
- Track record of building scalable lighting, shading, and material pipelines.
- Experience with profiling tools like PIX, RenderDoc, Unreal Insights, or similar.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Proactive in ownership, goal setting, knowledge sharing, and independent initiative driving.
- Creative and strategic thinking to solve complex technical challenges and foster innovation.
Nice to Have:
Experience in tool development and automation using C++ or Python (not required to apply).
