Job summary

Jefferson Health is seeking an Expert Software Engineer to own the full lifecycle of AI-generated applications, from design to long-term support. You will work within Jefferson's AI Factory strategy, collaborating with Architecture, Security, Product, and Operations to deliver scalable, secure AI-enabled solutions.

Responsibilities include implementing automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment practices, mentoring engineers, and ensuring compliance with security and Responsible AI requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years in software development with distributed systems and cloud platforms.
• Hands-on software engineering with AI-assisted development tools in production.
• Experience establishing standards and best practices for development teams.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment practices.
• Security, privacy, and compliance knowledge including Responsible AI considerations.
• Experience modernizing legacy applications and using observability platforms.

Job Details

The Expert Software Engineer is responsible for design, development, enhance, and support AI-enabled applications and services as part of Jefferson's AI Factory strategy. This role owns the full lifecycle of AI-generated applications — from engineering standards and AI-assisted development practices through testing, deployment, modernization, and long-term support — while ensuring solutions meet enterprise security, privacy, compliance, and Responsible AI requirements.

• Utilize enterprise-approved AI-assisted development tools and platforms
• Maintain, optimize, and modernize AI-generated applications throughout their lifecycle
• Establish engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for AI-assisted software development
• Implement automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment practices supporting AI-generated solutions
• Ensure AI-enabled applications meet security, privacy, compliance, and Responsible AI requirements
• Refactor and modernize legacy applications to support Jefferson's modernization roadmap
• Monitor application performance, reliability, and operational health using observability and telemetry platforms

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or
• High School Diploma/GED and 10 years preferred work experience.
• 7 years in software development, including experience with distributed systems and cloud platforms.
• Strong hands-on software engineering experience, with demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools/platforms in a production setting
• Experience establishing engineering standards, patterns, and best practices for a development team
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment practices
• Working knowledge of application security, privacy, and compliance requirements, including Responsible AI considerations
• Experience refactoring and modernizing legacy applications
• Experience with observability/telemetry platforms for monitoring application performance and reliability
• Track record of owning complex application development and lifecycle management in a senior/expert capacity
• Roughly 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent depth — exact tenure matters less than demonstrated ownership of complex, AI-enabled application delivery

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 10 years with a track record of solving complex technical challenges and mentoring engineers.
• Experience mentoring engineers on AI-assisted development adoption
• Experience with SaaS-replacement or application modernization initiatives
• Healthcare or other regulated-industry background
• Familiarity with enterprise AI platforms and Responsible AI governance frameworks
• Experience evaluating and piloting emerging AI development technologies
• Experience in designing or supporting agentic AI systems (multi-step, tool-using AI workflows) and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures for grounding AI outputs in enterprise data

Physical Demands

Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
