Job summary

Cox Manufacturing in San Antonio, TX is seeking a highly skilled machinist to set up and operate engine lathes and knee mills in a fast-paced, precision-focused shop.

You will read complex blueprints, select cutting tools, verify tolerances with micrometers and calipers, mentor newer machinists, and contribute to continuous improvement on the floor. This full-time role offers strong benefits and a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience running engine lathes and knee mills required (10+ years strongly preferred).
• Proven track record independently setting up jobs and holding precision tolerances.
• Expert-level blueprint and technical drawing interpretation.
• Strong command of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, indicators).

Responsibilities

• Independently set up and operate engine lathes and knee mills to produce precision parts, start to finish.
• Read and work from complex blueprints and technical drawings with no hand-holding.
• Select and dial in cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on years of hands-on judgment.
• Hold tight tolerances consistently, verifying work with micrometers, calipers, and other precision instruments.
• Troubleshoot setup and process issues on the fly and correct course before scrap happens.
• Mentor less experienced machinists and help drive continuous improvement on the floor.

Full-Time | Mon – Fri, 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM | $32 – $40 per hour

has spent years behind a lathe and knee mill and doesn't need training wheels. They've seen enough jobs go sideways to know how to stop problems before they start. They set up, dial in, and hold tolerance without someone standing over their shoulder — and they're ready to pass that know-how on to newer machinists coming up.
