Job description

Join Nestlé IT & Digital in Arlington, VA (hybrid) as an Expert Data Scientist focused on applied AI. In this role, you bridge business priorities and engineering execution to define ambiguous problems and deliver AI solutions end-to-end, including agent-driven workflows and verification practices for reliable, responsible scaling.

Role Overview

You will serve as a technical and strategic leader for emerging AI, GenAI, and agentic technologies. The work combines product management thinking with hands-on engineering to frame use cases, design experiments, industrialize and deploy solutions, and drive adoption across stakeholders. You will also orchestrate AI agents across parallel workstreams and establish evaluation, monitoring, and workflow scaffolding to support trustworthy production outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a thought leader on emerging AI, GenAI, and agentic technologies, translating breakthrough capabilities into scalable applications aligned with Nestlé business priorities and enterprise value.
  • Partner with stakeholders to convert ambiguous business needs into precise specifications, including identifying data requirements, tradeoffs, and failure modes, and maintaining accountability through the solution lifecycle.
  • Own AI applications end-to-end, spanning use-case concept and experimental design through industrialization, deployment, and adoption.
  • Orchestrate AI agents across parallel streams of work, converting repeated tasks into reusable workflows other teams can leverage, and incorporating agents into both new and existing solutions as the technology landscape evolves.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks, conformance checks, and monitoring to validate AI output against defined specifications prior to rollout, including detection of silent errors; support production stability through agent-assisted diagnosis of data-quality and pipeline issues.
  • Improve team effectiveness by documenting decisions, learnings, and incidents in shared resources, and coaching business users and teammates to strengthen performance across projects.
  • Collaborate with global and regional IT & Digital teams to co-create and scale AI solutions, aligning with platform roadmaps and enterprise processes needed for approvals.
  • Build with security and resilience in mind by protecting sensitive data and safeguarding critical business processes, while anticipating failure and misuse to help keep AI systems safe, trustworthy, and reliable in production.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions and drive adoption.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated experience building and shipping AI/ML solutions that real users adopted.
  • 3+ years of experience deploying and scaling solutions at enterprise scale, including MLOps and cloud platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake.
  • 3+ years delivering production solutions with emerging technologies, advanced data and automation capabilities, or machine learning, with a recent focus on AI, GenAI, LLMs, and agentic workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience directing AI agents or agentic workflows to perform substantive work beyond single-prompt usage.
  • Experience moving AI from concept to enterprise-scale adoption, ideally in consumer products, CPG, Supply Chain, or Commercial environments.
  • Strong hands-on engineering fluency in Python (or similar) for building, deploying, and integrating AI solutions, including modern LLM and agent patterns such as prompt interaction, tool/function calling, retrieval, and handling non-determinism.
