An established immigration law firm is seeking a talented writer to support their practice by crafting compelling recommendation and attorney cover letters for clients applying for O-1B and EB-1A visas. This role offers the opportunity to work remotely while contributing to the success of prominent professionals in the arts and business. Ideal candidates will have a passion for writing, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines. If you have a knack for storytelling and a desire to make a difference in the lives of clients, this position is perfect for you.
Immigration law firm specializing in O-1s and EB-1As located in West Concord, Massachusetts.
About Us: We are a friendly, supportive, ethical, and busy immigration law firm which for 25 years has specialized in obtaining O-1B and O-1A visas for filmmakers, actors, musicians, stylists, business executives, and other prominent professionals, and in obtaining EB-1A green cards, naturalization and other immigration-related applications and benefits. Many of our clients are prominent in their respective industries. Our in-office staff consists of three professionals, and another 3 paralegals/writers work remotely.
About the Position:
The Law Office of Elisabeth Ames is seeking a conscientious, creative, and strong writer to work offsite for our successful immigration law practice. The position requires a person who highly enjoys writing. Preference will be given to candidates who have proven experience writing Attorney Cover Letters and letters of recommendation on behalf of clients with extraordinary ability in the arts, and/or prior immigration law experience. However, those with non-legal immigration law backgrounds will be given consideration.
This role will provide critical support to ensure that our clients are dynamically, compellingly, and accurately portrayed in writing for important phases of the visa application processes. The person in this role will create new written content of two types:
Batches of 5-10 custom recommendation letters per client, each of 2 to 2.5 pages in length, based on information provided by the client and his/her detailed CV. Turnaround time for a set of letters is typically 5 business days, dictated by the visa application process and firm priorities. Once reviewed by the attorney, the writer will respond to edits and generate new drafts for additional review and will polish as required to achieve final client-ready drafts. We are seeking a writer who can provide clean, well-written copy that is timely drafted.
Attorney cover letter (ACL) drafts, typically for the same client for which letters were written. The ACL lays out the legal arguments for the visa application, based on the legal test for the type of visa, the strategy, background, qualifications, recommendation letters, and evidence provided by the client, as well as direction from the attorney. ACLs are typically 15-20 pages long, and follow a structure developed by the firm over many years. Turnaround time is typically 5-10 business days. It is expected that a draft will go through two iterations of attorney review, and the writer is expected to respond to edits and polish to final. As the document nears final stage, in-office staff may perform final copyedits.
Requirements:
This role will be performed on an off-site, contract basis. Typically, a set of letters or an ACL is provided every week or two. Business hours are not required, although reliable turnaround and communications with the office team will be critical. Fees are paid on a per-letter or per-document basis and are negotiable based on experience. Pay rate to be determined based on experience.
The emphasis of this position is on experience working with a reputable immigration practice. No legal or paralegal training or certification is required. We offer training in our content, style, and formats as required, though the candidate is expected to be an excellent writer able to characterize the professional accomplishments of a client in an engaging way. The candidate should be willing to make at least a 1-to-2-year commitment to the role.
Please provide your resume, cover letter, and 2 original O-1B/O-1A/EB-1A writing samples which with personal information redacted. They should be as close as possible to the kind of writing we have described. In the alternative, send two samples of your writing (piece of journalism, review, critique, or academic writing). You may upload them to Indeed, or by e-mail directly to jeffrey@ameslaw.com.
