Job summary

Ampirical Solutions LLC is seeking an Experienced Substation Physical Engineer for our Duluth, GA office. You will deliver HV substation designs, including general arrangement, grounding, and BOM, and review field submittals for constructability.

Occasional travel to client sites is expected. Preferred candidates have a BE in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited school, FE certification (or 2+ years equivalent), and may have PE in Engineer IV roles.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in substation physical design
• Engineer III: FE required or +2 years experience in lieu
• Engineer IV: 5+ years with project leadership, PE preferred
• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, IEEE 80/998

Responsibilities

• Deliver accurate designs of high-voltage substation components
• Design substation systems including layout, grounding, conduit, BOM
• Prepare construction drawing packages for bids
• Review submittals for design and constructability
• Lead engineer or engineer of record on assigned projects
• Support development of proposals, bids, and schedules
• Assist construction teams with substation issues
• Mentor junior engineers and travel to client sites

Salary Range:

Engineer III -

• 3+ years of experience

• FE required. In lieu of FE, 2 additional years of experience are required.

• $80,000 -Commensurate (dependent on experience, education, and qualifications)E

Engineer IV-

• 5+ years of experience

• FE required. In lieu of FE, 2 additional years required

• PE preferred

• $92,000 -Commensurate (dependent on experience, education, and qualifications)

Your Role: Experienced Substation Physical Engineer

What You’ll Do

• Deliver accurate designs of high-voltage electrical substation components that meet industry and client standards.

• Design substation systems and components including general arrangement, equipment layout, grounding, conduit, and bills of material.

• Prepare construction drawing packages for bids and review incoming submittals for alignment with design and constructability.

• Perform quality reviews of electrical engineering work for both peers and subcontractors.

• May act as Lead Engineer and Engineer of Record for assigned projects.

• May manage the development of project proposals, bid preparation, and project schedules.

• Assist project teams during construction on substation-related issues.

• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to less experienced engineers.

• Travel to client sites and field locations as necessary.

What You Bring

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited university

• FE required for both levels (or +2 years experience in lieu of FE)

• PE preferred for Engineer IV

Experience

• Engineer III: 3+ years of experience in substation physical design within the utilities or energy industry

• Engineer IV: 5+ years of experience with demonstrated technical depth and project leadership

• Experience with ETAP, WinIGS, and IEEE 80/998

Skills:

• Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Inventor software (2D/3D modeling experience is a plus).

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
